Assessment-only route to Qualified Teacher Status

This route is open to you if you:

• hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent (as assessed by ENIC for international qualifications)
• have GCSEs in English and maths at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent (and science for primary phase candidates)
• have at least two years of teaching experience in two different schools. If you have teaching experience in only one school, a second school placement of a minimum of four weeks will be required before entry onto the programme
• require no further training to meet the Teachers’ Standards for Qualified Teacher Status.

• Assessment visits are conducted in your school (UK and internationally).
• All assessments are conducted by university assessors who are highly experienced in teacher training.
• Your portfolio of additional evidence is submitted online. Applications are accepted throughout the year. You can begin the assessment process at the beginning of September, January, or April.
• No fees are applicable for the initial screening of the application.
• Payments are taken at each stage of the assessment process.
• There is an assessment period of up to 12 weeks.

• Stage 1: Initial screening to determine eligibility following your expression of interest.
• Stage 2: You submit your application, demonstrating you are eligible for the assessment-only route.
• Stage 3: You prepare an evidence portfolio online to demonstrate how you meet the Teachers’ Standards.
• Stage 4: A first assessment visit to your school is made by a university assessor. This will include observations of your teaching, professional discussions, and scrutiny of documentation to determine whether you are likely to meet all the Teachers’ Standards within a maximum 12-week period.
• Stage 5: Your final assessment visit by a university assessor will be within 12 weeks of the first assessment.
• Stage 6: If you pass your assessment, you will be recommended to the DfE for QTS. You should hear from them within days of the final assessment visit.
