Introduction

Some of our courses require an interview or audition as part of the application process. This helps us learn more about you, your skills and your interest in the subject. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and make sure the course is the right fit for you.

In this guide, we’ll explain what to expect, how to prepare and tips to help you succeed.

What to expect

We want to make the process fair, straightforward and stress-free so you can feel prepared and confident.
Here are our commitments:

  1. Your interview or audition will take place on campus or online:

on campus: you will receive an email to confirm where it will take place

online: we will use Microsoft Teams – it’s free to use and works on mobile phones and laptops/PCs.

  2. We want to make sure that our process is accessible to all:
if you have any issues with participating, contact us at hls.recruitment@coventry.ac.uk and we will work together to find a solution.
  3. We will be flexible by providing a range of dates and times to choose from:
we understand our applicants come from a variety of backgrounds with different priorities and responsibilities.
  4. If you are unsuccessful, we can provide feedback to help you with future applications.

Preparing for your interview or audition

Here are ten tips to help you prepare.

  1. Book as soon as possible
If you’re invited to a selection process, you’ll get an email explaining how to book your interview or audition. Pick a date that gives you plenty of time to prepare.
  2. Read the guidance notes carefully
These tell you everything you need to know about your interview or audition – the format, what we’re looking for, and if you need to bring anything.
  3. Research the course and university
Check out the university website and social media to see what the course involves and what current students are doing.
  4. Think about what you’ll say
Consider the qualities we’re looking for and think of examples that show why you’d be a great fit. Be ready to talk about your passion for the subject.
  5. Prepare your questions
You’ll have the chance to ask about the course and university, so jot down any questions - it’s a great way to show your enthusiasm.
  6. Check your tech
If it’s an online interview, read our ‘Using Microsoft Teams’ guide. Find a quiet, well-lit spot where your device can stay stable.
  7. Get any required materials ready
If you need to bring an audition tape or anything else, start preparing early. This is your chance to showcase your skills and enthusiasm for the course.
  8. Read the guidance notes again
Remember, they explain exactly what to expect - there are no trick questions, just a chance for us to get to know you.
  9. Dress comfortably but professionally
Wear something that reflects the profession you’re hoping to go into but also makes you feel confident and comfortable.
  10. Reach out if you have any worries
We’re here to help - just email us at ukadmissions@coventry.ac.uk or call +44 (0)24 7765 2222 - we’ll be happy to support you.

Good luck—we can’t wait to meet you.

Using Microsoft Teams

Here's a guide to help you prepare for your Microsoft Teams session:

  1. Check your invitation: your email will include a link to join your session. Keep this link accessible on your computer or mobile.
  2. Choose your device: depending on what you have, download the Teams app from your app store for smartphones or tablets. For laptops or PCs, access Teams through the web.
  3. Account setup: decide whether to use an existing account or set up a new one. Setting up beforehand and noting your login details can save time.
  4. Test call: After setting up your account, try a test call. Find ‘settings’ then choose ‘device settings’ and select ‘make a test call’.
  5. Check your equipment: ensure your microphone, speakers and camera are all on and working properly. Test them beforehand to avoid technical issues during your session.
  6. Joining your session: On the day of your session, simply click the provided link. You might enter a 'lobby' if you're early and will be admitted once the session begins.
  7. Display your name: make sure your Teams account displays the same full name you used in your application. Have your ID ready if needed for verification.
  8. Technical issues: if you encounter any technical problems on the day, contact us on +44 (0)24 7765 2222. Technical issues won't affect your application outcome, but we will need to reschedule.
  9. Can’t attend: if you're unable to attend your scheduled session for any reason, let us know as soon as possible. We'll contact you to arrange another slot to ensure you don't miss out.
  10.  Accessibility: we aim to make this process accessible for everyone. If you have concerns, email us at hls.recruitment@coventry.ac.uk and we'll work together to find a solution.
