Placement for undergraduate students

Many of the university’s undergraduate courses offer the opportunity to undertake an optional additional year gaining experience on a work internship/placement, in the UK or abroad.

Our Talent Team is here to support you during the process of applying for a place. We also work closely with industry and professional bodies to ensure our courses provide you with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills demanded by employers.

At what point do I indicate I’d like to go on an internship/placement?

How long can I go on internship/placement for?

How is it connected to my course?

If I’m an overseas student wishing to complete a UK internship/placement, will I need a special visa?

If you are an overseas student completing a UK internship/placement you will not usually require an additional visa. This is only applicable as long as your current visa covers the full duration of your course, including the sandwich year.

However, if you only have a visa for three years, for example, you would have to investigate extending it, which will come with a fee. This will be something you’ll need to investigate and complete on your own. The team can provide supporting documentation to help with the application process.

If you are an overseas student and wanted to complete an internship/placement outside of the UK this might not be the case.

I’d like to work abroad, will I need a visa for that?

Will the internship/placement year carry any credits?

Will the internship/placement appear on my final academic transcript or final degree award?

This will depend on where you are studying. For Coventry University students, all modules completed as part of your course will appear on your final academic transcript. For Coventry University London students, all other distinctions will be on the certificate.

For the final degree award, this is the same as above. Coventry University students who went on an internship/placement will have “including a period of industrial placement” on their award.
